In 1766 this French sculptor was summoned to Russia by Catherine II to produce a bronze equestrian statue of Peter the Great, dedicated in 1782.

This painter and printmaker was one of 4 founders of the Expressionist group Die Brücke (“The Bridge”) which was formed in Dresden in 1905.
